Off to Rancho Cucamonga

OK. We have what we believe will be the final interview and meeting on Thursday AM before an offer is extended to us. The opportunity is Co-Managers at one of the more than 300 Holiday Retirement Communities across the country. This is an opportunity that was first mentioned to us by our friends - Theresa "Tee" and Larry Ford - who are presently in training to become Co-Managers at a Community in Florida.

It is just too good an opportunity to pass up. Briefly, we will be one of two couples managing one of their facilities. The package includes a free one bedroom apartment, including all utilities, plus cable. It also includes 3 meals per day - prepared by a chef - and many other benefits such as almost free health care (including vision and dental), 2 weeks paid vacation, bonuses, a matching (75%) 401K program, and free stays at any of the other Retirement Communities across the country, including free meals, while traveling. Also, friends and family may stay for free, including meals, in one of the guest apartments while visiting.

We requested a location in Southern California, near San Diego, since we have wanted to spend some time in that area. The Communities that are located there are suppose to have openings, so our chances are very good at landing one of them as our home. They are: The Springs of Escondido and The Springs of El Cajon. We don't have a feel yet for the exact time frame for relocating to the area, but it would most likely be in early January. That means that our trip to Puerto Rico will probably have to be canceled - or delayed for some time. There are lots of logistics to be worked out - regarding the fifth wheel, storage, etc. - but we are very excited about the prospect of building a better retirement for ourselves over the next couple years. The salary is significant, and we should be able to bank the entire paycheck for as long as we work there.

Our flight leaves at 2:55 PM today, and with a change in Houston, we will arrive in Ontario, CA at 7:30 PM. We have a rental car waiting and we will drive to The Valencia Commons, which is where we will stay, and is the location of our meeting tomorrow AM. The meeting includes a tour of the Community and we will stay in a similar one bedroom apartment to what we would have in San Diego. We leave Ontario at 12:02 PM on Thursday and, with another change in Houston, gets us back to Louisville at 10:34 PM. By the time we get home on Thursday night, it only leaves a few hours of sleep before going to work again at 6 AM on Friday. Ugh!!

There was a Job Fair at the campground yesterday that was sponsored by Amazon and there were probably 8 or so Companies with booths. We were hardly interested in any of them, but we picked up information anyway. We had a chance to speak with the HR Manager from Amazon that was there and she indicated that the 19th of December (Monday) would most likely be our last day. That's good news, as it gives us plenty of time to get to wherever we are going to spend Christmas.

We'll have the camera with us on this trip and we hope to have some great pictures, as well as some good news...
