It was a difficult day yesterday, physically. For me, it was the 2nd time this week I had to work in the case stowing area where I have to move boxes - some of them heavy - from a storage bin onto my cart (usually between 15 - 20 boxes on a larger than normal cart) to break open, remove the contents, stow the contents in a warehouse bin, break down the empty boxes, toss them in a trash area and move more storage bins using a heavy dolly into the area to repeat the process. Doing this for 10 hours is not easy work. Of course, when we schedule an overtime day we don't know which area we will be assigned to work. I wish we hadn't signed up for the extra day this week.
It was also a frustrating day for Josie who, for the second day this week, was assigned in a "putback" area to stow product. This is frustrating because the content of merchandise on each of her stow carts is returned merchandise from customers and the cart is filled with single products. This means that the stow rate is very low as a result of wasting time to find empty bins in which to place one item, where the normal stow process would be for multiple, duplicate items that allow you to empty your cart much faster. The rules for stowing allow for only 3 different items in a bin, but you can place as many like items as will fit into a bin.
So, knowing all that, it will be a long day for us today. One incentive, aside from the extra money, is knowing it will be the last day of work this week, and there is no way (right now at least) that we will sign up for another overtime day in the next couple weeks. If we have any thought of signing up for the extra day, I need to come back and read this entry. The problem is, we don't know which area we are assigned to work until we show up and read the schedule for the day. We are hoping for a "normal" day today...
