Jackson Hole Arrival

The forecast was for rain all day, with some snow mixed in some areas of Yellowstone. We talked about staying one more night in West Yellowstone, but decided that we were too anxious to get to Jackson and to see the changes at the Virginian Lodge, so we nixed that idea. We set out at 9:30 and saw some elk and bison along the way and the rain was steady the entire trip. By the time we got to the geothermals in the southern portion of the Grand Loop road, the cool temperatures enhanced the effect of these natural wonders:

We saw more bison all along the way until we reached the pass which would take us to the highest point on our trip. Josie is not a fan of any pass, but throw in some mixed snow and rain and temperatures at 34-36 degrees, and we have major stress. She did a fine job disguising her fear as she snapped some nice photos of the snow in the pass:

There were two crossings of the Continental Divide on this pass, and this is one of them:

The other crossing was at an elevation of 8262 feet.

We made the entrance to the Grand Teton National Park after exiting Yellowstone at the South Entrance:

and, as expected, there was a very limited view of these majestic mountains:

We will certainly return later in the week when the skies clear and we can see the mountains with all the winter snow.

It was nearly 12:30 when we arrived in Jackson:

and pulled into our spot at the Virginian Lodge Campground where we will be spending the next four months. We set up our rig and took a shot of our new space:

We went into the Lodge to talk to Donna who was working the front desk. One of her daughters was hired to work for the season which was a pleasant surprise. The schedule that was posted on the wall had us starting on Sunday, the 26th of May. We don't know our exact schedule yet since this one only went to the end of the month. It was a great visit with Donna and her daughter and we left so they could get back to work.

We have one week to acclimate to the elevation and enjoy the area. It's good to be here again and we look forward to a fun summer...
