Looking at the End

We sent an email to HR yesterday asking to be one of the couples considered for early departure this year. Amazon asked people last year if they wanted to leave up to a week early and we wanted to make sure that our names would be on the list for this year if it is again offered. As long as there is no impact on the year end bonus, we would like to leave as early as possible. Working here since early July has more than fulfilled our commitment.

The HR people responded with an email thanking us for all the hard work, dedication and commitment we've made this year so far and indicated they will soon be planning the "ramp-down" for this year, and we would certainly be included in any offer for early departure. At the same time, we received another email from HR asking if people might be interested in staying beyond the December 23 end date to continue working, possibly into January. Yikes! The thought of even working one day beyond the 23rd makes us cringe.

We should have only 3 official weeks left on our commitment here following today. It hardly seems possible that the end is that close. Of course, there will be overtime days involved during that period, but we are thinking that we will try to minimize those.

There was nothing exciting at work yesterday and we hope that today goes quickly so that we can begin our break this week. The break is only 2 days since we have an overtime day scheduled for Thursday. The rain is continuing - 1.5" over the last day and a half - and the temperatures are dropping. Please keep the snow away...
