Our friends, Theresa "Tee" and Larry - the folks we worked with at Grey's Point and the ones that accepted the job at a Holiday Retirement Center - will be leaving for their new adventure next Saturday. Tee has stopped working at Amazon since they accepted the position but Larry will work Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Since we both have Tuesday off, we scheduled a final dinner with them at the Magic Wok in town. That is the place that has the great Chinese buffet on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, so it should be a good time.
Their plan is to sell their trailer following the training period of six weeks. The location they selected to work is very close to Tee's parents home in southern Florida. The costs associated with storing the trailer for the years they plan to work the job do not justify keeping it, and they feel they can purchase another following their commitment there. It is a great opportunity to save lots of money, get much needed health care coverage and build for a solid retirement. This all started when Tee was having a problem with the very physical demands at Amazon and they sent their resume on a whim in response to an ad they saw in one of our working couples websites that we use to locate jobs.
Speaking of locating jobs, we received an email from Amazon indicating they were holding a job fair in early December to help the workampers locate other opportunities for after the peak season, ending in late December. They have invited many companies to participate in the fair, and we will attend even though we have jobs lined up for most of next year. You never know if a job will be offered that you can't refuse.
It's day 3 of our work week today and we are looking forward to completing week #18 tomorrow...
