Rafting Bumped

The last two years that we went rafting with the Dave Hansen Company, we went on schedule. This year, we want to try a different company - Jackson Hole Whitewater - and we were bumped one day from our originally scheduled trip yesterday. It turned out that it may have been a blessing in disguise. It was very cloudy in the morning and there was a definite rain threat.

We mowed our grass and were going to take a bike ride into the Tetons when the sky grew even darker. Eventually, it rained a little bit and was overcast the whole morning. Another reason it may have been good that we didn't go was that the day before we had taken a drive down to Alpine where the rafts go on the Snake River and we were amazed to see how muddy the water was. The Snake was clear until the Hoback River flowed into it at the Hoback Junction south of Jackson. We took a couple shots of the river to show how it looked on Thursday:

It looked like the Willie Wonka Chocolate Factory water.

Later in the afternoon the sun came out and we sat out for about an hour before deciding to take a walk into town to get some things at Ace Hardware and at the Dollar Store. Our campground is like the lodge at this time of the year - sold out just about every night. This is what our row looked like as we returned home from our walk:

The skies cleared and we ended up having a nice afternoon.

This morning, the skies are partly cloudy and it is a little cool - 53 - but our rafting trip is on, so we hope to have some shots of the trip either tomorrow or the next day. Lets hope the skies stay clear, the river is back to its normal color and we have a great trip down the river...
