It was around 10:15 AM by the time we walked into town and found a spot to watch the parade that was scheduled to begin at 10:30. This year, we stood at the corner of the intersection where the parade turns onto the main street:
It seemed like the perfect location to watch and get pictures, but it turned sour in a hurry. Almost every float in the parade threw some kind of candy out to the crowd and the kids came out of nowhere to scramble to pick up all the candy in the street. The event volunteers couldn't hold back the crowd, and we were forced to move to another location about 50 feet up the street. Our clear view turned out to be behind three or four rows of children of all ages.
The parade started right on time though, and it had its usual representation of horses:
and of course, the classic cars:
There was one float that carried Miss Wyoming:
and lots and lots of floats of campaigning politicians. Those would have been boring shots.
Finally, the parade wound up with a dozen fire trucks from the local fire departments. It's a good thing that there were no fires in the area as all the trucks seemed to be in the parade:
We guessed that there were many more people watching the parade this year. There also were more floats in this year's parade. It was a fun time and well done. It also was a perfect day, weather wise as it went to 86 degrees yesterday.
We walked home a different way and saw some nice flowers in full bloom:
and we eventually walked past the area where the fireworks were being set up at the base of the Sno-King hill:
We had a nice time relaxing outside in the afternoon before grilling a couple steaks and setlling in for the night. We ended the day by going outside to watch the fireworks that were only a couple blocks from our home:
It was a pretty good fireworks display for a small town.
That takes care of the 4th of July celebration for another year, and we hope everybody had as nice a time as we did while celebrating the country's birthday...
