Books and Computers

Several years ago we purchased Kindles so that we could take advantage of reading almost any book that is available without creating a heavy, hard copy library. Usually, when you finish reading a book, you either store it someplace or donate it to a cause somewhere. These eliminated those concerns. The problem we are having with the Kindles - at least our versions - is that the electronic versions of these books are abbreviated copies and hardly ever include any diagrams, photos or maps that are in original copies of the books I like to read. Josie likes to read the endings of her books before completing the body of the material - that's difficult to do on our Kindles as it is easier to scan the ending pages in a real book vs electronic versions. Anyway, we both kind of migrated away from the Kindle versions and have been buying books again to satisfy the conditions that we don't have with the Kindles.

Josie likes to read romance novels and I prefer non-fiction and historical books. I recently purchased a new one - Stonehenge, A New Understanding - which is a better and more thorough description and explanation of the mysteries surrounding this great monument in England. I have the book - Stonehenge Decoded - that I bought many years ago, but I am still fascinated by the history surrounding this stone monument. This book is loaded with photos, maps and detailed pictorial descriptions of the Stonehenge mystery and would not be a good book to read in the Kindle version. The reason for this discussion is that we are considering a replacement for Josie's computer - which is my previous system - that is acting up with some communications problems and pop-up programs that we can't seem to get rid of very easily. Anyway, we will not spend any money to fix her system. By the time you invest a couple hundred dollars in repairs to a system, you can justify a new one. The more we read about the new, enhanced versions of the Kindles and all that they can do, we are looking at replacing her system with a new Kindle. It is also a color unit and can perform many of the functions that are lacking in the old ones, plus it can do everything that Josie does on her computer system - surf the net, store photos, play games, do email, print, and perform all of her other needs - for a lot less than a computer. Maybe, if it performs all the computer functions, I can also replace my system with one when the time comes.

We're looking at more dry weather for the foreseeable future. I heard something about a consecutive day record for something, but it must be for the season. I know that the record for consecutive dry days is around 102 (?) and we are only at about 30 something, but it is nice to have sunshine every day. Combine those sunny days with temps near 80, and it is certainly the place to be...
