Mini Trip to Jenny Lake

With a few hours available to us before starting work at 3 PM, we thought it would be fun to take a short trip to Jenny Lake in the Tetons. It was on this road where the moose and calf were seen that was described earlier this week. Maybe we would get lucky and see the pair. We did. It was just about where the location was described to us - 1/4 mile past the Park entrance, and a few miles south of Jenny Lake. The pair were sitting along the river over an embankment and were just sunning themselves and resting. We got a good shot of Mama:

but the calf was barely visible in the nearby brush:

Since they were not about to get up and move around, we decided to move on to Jenny Lake and stop back on our way home. The drive to Jenny Lake was spectacular and we took many pictures of breathtaking mountain views, a couple of which are below:

The Lake was beautiful:

and is only one of several lakes in the Park. Actually, it is one of the smaller lakes in the Grand Tetons as can be seen from our location by the tiny red arrow (upper center) in the park model below that was located in the Jenny Lake Visitor Center:

The large lake to the right in the above model is Jackson Lake, and that is our destination for today.

On the way home we stopped at the location where the moose were seen lying down. The mother was standing but the calf was still lying down and almost completely invisible so we didn't post any more pictures of them. We hope to see more of them over the coming weeks and we will take more photos as we can get them.

One last popular sighting on the way home was the Sleeping Indian Mountain that is part of the Bridger Teton National Forest to the east:

It really does look like a sleeping Indian. That is similar to the peak in the Cody area that we saw every day while there.

Our work day (evening) was long and uneventful. We were done at 11 PM and are now enjoying the first of our 2  days off this week. As mentioned, we are planning to go to Jackson Lake today, so it's time to get ready...
