Discovering Idaho Falls

Our plan was to take a trip to an area we haven't been before. We chose Idaho Falls as it is the closest, large city to us that has all the main shopping attractions like Sam's Club and many other big stores. Since it was only about 90 miles from us, we decided to make a day out of it.

We left fairly early - 9 AM - and took the longer, southern route to Idaho which was the much more level route. That route took us by the Palisades Reservoir, the largest body of water for recreation in the Eastern mountains of Idaho:

That was pretty much the highlight of our trip to Idaho Falls. It was a disappointing town from the standpoint that it was very old, flat and not exciting at all. It was just another town in an area with no mountains and lots of plain vanilla surroundings. We did accomplish our goal of going to Sam's Club and picked up some things that we cannot get locally in Jackson Hole, and I also got a haircut at the local Walmart where we stopped to get a few things. We had a nice brunch at a local family restaurant, but other than that, the visit to Idaho Falls was uneventful and even less memorable.

The trip back to Jackson Hole was a different story. We had heard that this, shorter route was very beautiful, but the Teton Pass was winding, twisting, and steep in one place where we had a 10% grade for about 5 miles. It was very beautiful:

and you can see Jackson Hole off in the distance at the bottom of the Pass. It was not the kind of road that we will ever drive with the fifth wheel, and is certainly one that Josie will want to forget forever. She doesn't like mountain roads at all, and this one ranks right up there with Stevens Pass in WA and a couple that we took while at 49er Ranch in CA. But, it is one you need to travel one time to see for yourself.

Our plan is to head to Yellowstone today for our first revisit to our favorite Park. We will take along a lunch and some drinks and stop along the way. It is an especially nice trip from here as we pass through the Grand Tetons each time we will visit Yellowstone. We're sure to get some good shots today...
