Bird Watching

One of the pleasant activities we enjoy while outside is watching the birds that are all over the place. The mating season is about over and we see lots of babies in the area and, occasionally, we see whole families together. These shots were taken yesterday of a quail couple that had an only child:

It is really tough getting close up shots of these birds as they are very skittish and run as soon as they spot you. I'll keep trying to get better close-up shots of these quail as they are seen every day in our yard. There aren't many species of birds that we don't get around here. The main ones, aside from the quail, are pigeons, doves, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, black birds and many others that I can't identify as a non bird watching person.

It appears that we will get some rain sometime today. We so desperately need some and I know that we will be wishing it would all go away as we get further into the monsoon season. In the meantime, it will be nice to get a little relief from the awful heat...
