Biking to Jenny Lake

The weather forecast had changed for the two days we have off this week and we weren't sure which of the days would be best for our planned bike ride. We decided yesterday would be the best of the two, and we headed out at 11 AM for a long ride of almost 16 miles round trip.

The trip would take us from the parking lot at the Dornan's restaurant where we turned around on our last ride into the Tetons, to the south end of Jenny Lake. Because we were undecided whether to take the trip yesterday or today, we got a late start at 11:30:

We crossed the Snake River after only about 1/2 mile at the location where we saw the Moose along the river bank a few weeks ago:

We went through the entry to the park and had a steep hill to climb right off the bat:

It was a good thing that this hill was early in our trip and not at the end.

It was an excellent ride where we stopped a couple times to rest and grab some water, and we made it the 7.8 miles to Jenny Lake. We were surprised that the wind was so strong - only on the lake - and it created whitecaps:

We ate some of the snacking food we brought while watching the waves and going through the Visitor's Center at the lake.

All along the way, we snapped photos of the wildflowers. There were some that we hadn't seen before, and others that we had seen but were now in full bloom.

Here are some of those shots, beginning with the wildflowers outside the visitor's center:

It was the longest bike ride so far for us and we both felt the effects on our legs when we returned. It was a great day and a great ride, and we decided to take another ride - probably next week - from the parking area at Jenny Lake to the northern part of the lake which is another approximately 10 mile round trip.

We stopped at DQ on the way home at 3 PM for a treat before heading home to sit outside for the remainder of the afternoon. It sure felt good to sit, relax and do nothing for awhile.

It is suppose to rain sometime today and we will spend much of the day putting together our entries for the Teton County Fair which are required to be submitted by Friday the 19th. I will enter my most recent cross stitch that I completed while in WA, and Josie will enter one or more of her wildflower pictures. It will be neat just to have something entered, whether or not our entries win any prizes. The Fair will run for 10 days and will end on the 28th. My entry is already framed, but we need to get a couple frames for Josie's pictures. It's been a long time since we've done a County Fair, so it will be fun...
