Our day at work yesterday was spent preparing for today's game more than making sure that everything went smoothly for the game between the Padres and the Royals. The big game today is between the Dodgers and the Rangers and the game is sold out which means we will have the largest crowd yet. The stadium holds 8600 fans, not including the grassy areas in the outfield, and we expect between 9 - 10K fans at the game. We loaded up our speed racks with popcorn bags, nacho bowls, peanut tubs and bags, and chip bowls, so we feel we are ready for the big crowd. We also have enough hot dogs, Polish Sausage and Brats already cooked to throw on the warmer for quick availability. This will be the first time we will see the Dodgers at the stadium and the forecast is for temperatures in the 80's which is perfect for a ball game. Our fingers are crossed for a successful day.
The biggest difference between working yesterday and today is the crew that works on weekends. There are a couple folks - young people - that are a problem for us. They want to just stand around, watch the game, and not do any work. The work ethic is very different for these young people vs the older, workamper type employees. They seem to just want to be there and get paid for standing around when there is lots of (obvious) work to be done. For example, they have to be told to do simple replacements of certain condiments when it is clear that they need to be refreshed. Oh well, it is what it is and we deal with them.
The day will certainly be interesting if nothing else. I hope to have a report of a huge, successful day in tomorrow's entry...
