Walking the KC Trail

It got to the point yesterday morning where we felt that we had to get back out for some exercise - regardless of the weather threats. There is a short trail - the KC Trail - that runs along the bottom of the big hill where Josie's Ridge runs along the crest. By walking this trail and exiting on the bike trail that we have often used, we could get a 2 or 3 mile walk in for the day.

We started out at the access trailhead just across the street from our campground:

Note: Josie's Ridge runs along the very top of this mountain.

The trail started climbing right away:

and we could get a pretty good view of our campground from the trail:

including this shot where I zoomed in on our location in the campground on the end site:

We kept climbing and the trail gave us many opportunities to view the part of town that we walk often for our (almost) daily exercise:

This section of the trail comes out at the Flat Creek location where we ride our bikes, and gave us a different view of the creek:

and of the bike trail, where we caught these bikes crossing one of the bridges:

The hike was a short one - about 2.75 miles - but we were glad to get some much needed exercise. Albertsons grocery store was not far from where we left the trail, so we stopped to get some veggies for our dinner before arriving back home.

It has been very different this year as far as driving around all the areas surrounding Jackson. The fact that we don't have the Jeep and the truck gets lousy gas mileage has caused us to reconsider any trips that might unnecessarily use gas. Gas is also more expensive this year, so that is also a consideration. The positive result of not driving to so many places is that we are getting more physical exercise which is better for us anyway. We are learning about the trail system in this area and have gained a real appreciation for all the options available in this area for good exercise.

The forecast is holding steady for beautiful weather on our days off this week, so we are definitely looking forward to Thursday and Friday...
