Our activities from Thursday wore us out enough to want to do some easy activities yesterday. Josie had some leg issues, and we both were anxious to get some work done on our active projects - Josie is close to completing an afghan, and I am about half way done on another cross stitch project. We haven't spent much time on these projects with all of the hiking and bike riding we've done recently. Also, we wanted to take a drive to the Visitor Center in town to pick up a more detailed Trails Map of all the hiking trails in Jackson. The map we have been using is more for the bike trails and doesn't have all the detail we want for hiking.
We found the perfect map at the Visitor's Center. We always enjoy trips to that place as there is so much to see. The Center is staffed with mostly workampers like ourselves, and we spoke with one couple who is here for the third year, and they are staying at a site that is next to the Miller House at the edge of the Elk Refuge where we visited last year. They are totally volunteers though, and do not receive any compensation except for the site and hookups. There are so many different opportunities here for seasonal workampers. You can do just about anything you want and enjoy the area at a very low cost. When you are strictly volunteering for your site, your hours are much less than we work. This couple probably works only about 20 hours per week which gives them lots of free time. We may be in that mode at some point.
The nice weather has returned for now and the last two days have been terrific. Our high yesterday was only 79 with a low of 50. This morning we went down to 41, but the sun is shining and the air is clear. It is about this time last year when the smoke from the Idaho wildfires created the ugly haze so that we could barely see the mountains. We hope that it doesn't create the same problem this year.
It's back to work today at 3 PM. We will probably mow the grass this morning before getting ready for work. Ugh!
