Laundry and PGA

The morning yesterday was taken with Josie doing some laundry and me watching the PGA Championship on TV. We both got some work done on our crafts before going to work at 3 PM. The weather is improving and our forecast for the week contains a lot more sunshine than the last couple of weeks.

I mentioned yesterday that we made the cut for consideration as Caretakers/Managers at a small resort on Lake Shasta in CA but passed on the opportunity as a result of bad timing on the start date. Evidently, we were the chosen couple with the right of first refusal as the ad re-appeared in our workamper hotline yesterday. It's too bad the timing was off a little bit as it was a chance to spend some quality time in a great location. I'm sure there will be other opportunities similar to that in the near future.

We worked our shift last night with our manager, Judy, who reinforced our opinion that the lodge is now in a low investment mode. It has been pretty obvious to all of us that certain maintenance projects are being overlooked or ignored as the family that owns the lodge is in an austerity mode. They are not spending any more than necessary which indicates that as soon as Virginia - the sole surviving owner and 89 years old - passes away, the family will be selling the lodge. Judy agrees that should that happen, the lodge would most likely be leveled and new lodging constructed on this valuable site. She also said that when that time comes, the surviving children in the family will be facing astronomical capital gains taxes as this property is owned outright and valued at a minimum of $20 million, including the RV park. It will certainly be interesting to follow the events surrounding the lodge in the future.

This morning will most likely be similar to yesterday, as the final round of the PGA Championship is being televised. It is the final major for the golf season, and Tiger Woods is not in contention which is good news to me. Josie is well underway with a new afghan so she will probably continue with that project this morning. We are lining up some fun outdoor activities for this Thursday and Friday and expect to have some great weather for a change...
