Poker Run for Charity

Yesterday was pretty much an uneventful day. It was another long one for Josie and we didn't have much time for anything else. She is accumulating a bit of cash in tips while she is working as a waitress in the restaurant and, although it isn't burning a hole in her pocket yet, I can see her beginning to wonder what special event to splurge on.

Today will be an all day work day for both of us. There is a charity bike (motorcycle) run for a woman who was seriously injured in an accident on the day in July that we helped host the bike rally at the lodge. On that day (July 24) she and her boyfriend were riding their cycles behind a car on Rt 87 not too far from here when the car that they were following hit an elk. The elk flew over the car and hit the both of them on their bikes. Her boyfriend died, and she received serious facial damage and is requiring many surgeries to repair. Today's benefit actually begins in several cities and winds up at our lodge at around 2 PM where everyone will get together for a barbecue and special poker games in which all proceeds go to her medical account. The event is expected to last well into the evening. The biker community is very special when it comes to these kind of charitable events and they really do take care of each other.

No word yet on our next Workamping gig as the Manager here keeps trying to get us to stay longer. We received an email yesterday from one of the places we applied, thanking us for our interest but they received 150 applicants for one position. That's how difficult it is to find good winter gigs. Again, the number of parks that stay open for the winter is a fraction of the number of parks that are open during the summer months. Also, we don't want to accept just any job because we still want to feel good about where we stay. It will all work out...
