It was a day of mostly classroom discussions yesterday. There was some role playing but for the most part it was a boring day. There are some of the students that have caught some kind of bug and were dragging all day long. Actually, the ones that caught the bug were the ones that were partying most of the night on Saturday. Hmm. I remember those days.
We connected with the temporary managers at our assigned Community in Vista and spoke with Terri McBay for about an hour on the phone last night. She painted a bleak picture of the situation that exists at the Community which we suspected all along. There have been too many management changes there and they have lost many residents, most to moving to higher care facilities like assisted living. She indicated that there were 114 apartments and about 65% of them are occupied at the moment. The Company targets 95% occupancy, so we have our work cut out for us. It is an older building and has some maintenance issues which makes us a little uneasy. This is one of the buildings that was acquired by the Company and not one that was built to the cookie cutter specifications of most of the Communities. Our apartment is also a bit smaller than in most other Communities, so we will have to make do with whatever is assigned to us.
The biggest challenge that we face in the near term is packing, loading, driving from Phoenix to Vista, unloading, returning vehicles and getting set up in just 4 days. We will pick up the truck on Monday the 23rd, and have to report to work on Friday the 27th. We'll have to make it work. Most of the other students, we are finding out, have up to a week and a half to get settled in their new assignments, and some of those are only moving within the city they currently reside. I don't how or why they believe we can change the world in a couple days but we are reporting earlier to work. Like I said, we'll have to make it work. It sounds exciting nonetheless, and we are anxious to meet the people at the new location.
Today will be opposite of yesterday. It will be role playing most of the day and that suits us fine. The day will go faster and we will only have 2 more days to go. It's off to class we go...
