Buying Furniture

The priorities for yesterday were to check out the RV storage area and to buy a few pieces of furniture. The RV storage facility - Extra Storage - is located just on the city limits of Oceanside where it touches Vista. It is about 6 miles from the Community and close enough. The spaces are very narrow - 11' wide - but we felt that our fifth wheel would be happy there. There is also an RV dump and nice wash area on site, so we decided we will move the rig there today. The prices are typical Southern California - out of sight - but the choices are few.

While we were so close to the ocean we thought it would be a good idea to check out an RV park that is across the street from the ocean in Oceanside. It will probably be a destination for us on our days off with the RV. It allows us to get away and also enjoy the beach. The RV storage facility is only about 3 miles from there.

Furniture was next on the list and it turned out to be a much more difficult task than we thought. The first was at Living Spaces in Vista, and they had tons of choices. Of course, the ones we liked were the high priced sofas. We wanted one that had recliners on each end. We thought it best to comparison shop before making any decision so we went to an Ashley Furniture store a mile down the road to check things out. The choices weren't nearly as good as Living Spaces and they couldn't deliver anything for several days whereas Living Spaces advertised same day delivery if purchased by 4 PM. That was a good selling point, so it was back to Living Spaces, where we settled on a sofa that was affordable. We also bought a TV stand and a coffee table/end table combination that were floor models so we have to return today to pick those up since they only deliver new pieces from their factory inventory. That's a good thing because we want to switch our choice in the coffee table/end table selection.

We spent the rest of the day and evening emptying the fifth wheel of all that we could think of that might be needed while we are here. We took these shots of the lobby area here at the Community between loads as it was late and everybody was gone for the day - starting with the welcome board at the entrance:

We will get more pictures over the next couple days as the lights were all off on the second floor and we couldn't get a good shot of the dining room yet.

The delivery of our furniture pieces was at 8:30 PM and we set up the TV and watched shows until after midnight. I worked on setting up my replacement broadband card from Verizon, and Josie did some wash in our washer/dryer combination to make sure it worked okay. She also did some organizing in the closet with all the clothes we carried in from the fifth wheel.

It is beginning to look like home and all we need now is an area rug for in front of the sofa and we should be good to go. We will take the fifth wheel to storage this morning and go pick up our remaining pieces of furniture at Living Spaces and just continue eliminating boxes and organizing the apartment. It is our last day before starting work tomorrow, and we have dinner scheduled with our new managers, Terri and Charlie, for this evening...
