As mentioned yesterday, we were asked if we would cover for Mike & Sharon while they took a trip for the day. Tuesdays are usually very slow, and yesterday was no exception. We only received two reservations - one for a site, the other for storage - and only had about 4 phone calls. Of course, we handled all of this from out fifth wheel as we were handed the office phone in the AM as Mike was leaving. This phone is a real sticking point for us since it essentially allows the resort to be open 24/7, and we feel that there needs to be time when you don't have to be a slave to your job. Mike will answer the phone even if somebody calls at 2 AM. No wonder they need a day to get away.
Our plan for today is to take our first trip to the Palm Springs area. There are some campgrounds in that area that we want to check out and Josie also wants to check out some of the flower shops in that area. We are looking at that as a possible alternative for us if it appears that our income potential here will remain small. Mike had mentioned yesterday that the owner (Jeff) is going to rethink the coffee cart. We felt from the beginning that it should be located next to the cafe, instead of next to the office. With the huge crowds we had at the cafe over the weekend, it could have been a gold mine. It is not our decision of course, but if it were located there, we could almost work it everyday, and make money. His only problem, so we are told, is that the cart is part of the park profit center which is different from the cafe profit center. Sheesh! Change profit centers - he owns them both.
It is very quiet around here now, as usual from Monday thru Thursday. That also means that the dust level is dramatically reduced and we can sit outside without clouds of dust flying around. It's the nature of the area. OK, enough complaining for now. Until tomorrow...
