Visit to Gros Ventre Slide

It looked like rain most of the morning yesterday so we took a local drive to stay close to home. This is a place we visit each time we are here as the spectacle of such a natural geological event is fascinating. It s the Gros Ventre Slide:

I can't imagine witnessing such an event. There were some eyewitnesses and some barely escaped with their lives. The end result of the slide is that the town of Kelly - 3.5 miles away - was nearly totally wiped out by the flooding Gros Ventre River.

Here are shots of the area as it appears today:

We took a short walk along the Geology Trail that was near the information turnout and saw these huckleberries that were in early bloom:

As they attract bears, we decided to end our short walk. :)

Finally, on the drive home we took this shot of a view that was on the road to the Slide:

On a nicer day we would driven along this road for another several miles as the views were terrific all along the way.

That wrapped up our three day weekend. It's back to work today at 10:45 AM and we close at 7 PM tonight. If we can be blessed with more great weather we will plan another great three day weekend next week...
