Great Effort

The football season opened with a great effort by Austin's team - WMU - against Michigan State. Michigan State is ranked 5th in the country and for awhile, it looked like they would mop up the field with WMU. However, Austin's team came roaring back in the second half and, except for a couple dropped passes, could have made the outcome a lot more interesting. The final - 37-24 - was a great effort by WMU, and this final shot from the TV could have been WMU celebrating a huge upset:

Their next couple of games will be against easier opponents before they face Ohio State in another tough test. It should be another very good year for Austin's team and we hope that another bowl game is at the other end.

Next up is the start of the pro season which will be Thursday night with the Steelers playing the Patriots. Every time I hear the Patriots mentioned I get a bad taste - not only from their lucky win in the Super Bowl over the Seahawks, but for the joke surrounding the entire episode with Tom Brady. The football Gods are surely watching over that team.

We are enjoying some cooler weather these days as the temperatures are around 100 degrees. I'm sure there will be one last burst of hot weather where we will see 110 again, but at least we are getting some short term relief. The benefit of all that is that our electric usage will go down and that is always a welcome advantage. We do expect our electric bill to be lower this month anyway as we were without the use of our A/C for almost an entire week.

It's the holiday weekend but we don't have any firm plans in place at this time. We are talking about a short trip somewhere, but right now it is business as usual...
