Business Slowing Down

First of all, my bug is just about gone now and I feel almost back to normal. It didn't bother me nearly as much last night and I am starting to get back to my normal sleep routine.

We had the slowest night since we returned to Jackson last night. The reservations only totaled 35 and there were two busses with a total of 50 rooms. It appears that we are in a period now of having lots of kids returning to school and not many couples or families traveling too far from home. It was almost boring last night compared to the nights we've had the last two months. Since I was under the weather the last few days, it worked out fine.

One of the Cab companies in town - Cowboy Cab - is owned by a guy named "Mountain" Mike. We send a lot of business his way as we give his name and number to most guests that are looking for taxi service. He also owns a tour company that takes folks on tours through Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park. He came into the lobby last night to thank us for all the referrals we give to him and he offered to take us (Josie and I and our night audit person, Rachel) on a tour for one day - free. That amounts to $650 per person which is what he charges per person for a full day tour. He has the experience and knowledge to locate the wildlife - mostly bears, wolves and elk - that most people don't know where to look. We will be scheduling that fun trip after September 1 when his demand is reduced.

We are having lunch again on Tuesday with our friends Scott an Valerie Anderson. They are coming down from their jobs at Yellowstone again to talk to our management about opportunities for them at the Virginian for next year. They are a nice couple that would fit in well with their customer service skills. We'll see how that goes.

We have another slow night ahead based on the availability of rooms we saw last night. Until I get back to 100%, I'm happy with that...
