Jackson 2015

We were so anxious to get to Jackson that we left almost an hour earlier than planned yesterday from St George, UT. We gassed up and got a coffee at the local Mini Mart and we were on the road by 7:30 AM. The drive was excellent as we enjoyed familiar scenes along the way and made great time with just a few stops for gas. There was the usual highway construction but there was no rain and we had sunshine the whole way.

It was like coming home again when we finally crossed into Wyoming on I-80 near Evanston, WY:

Our ETA according to our GPS was 4 PM and we arrived at the Virginian Lodge exactly at 4 PM. There was one of the workers that we knew on duty - Rachel Leslie - and it was a happy reunion with her while we talked about changes at the Lodge and all the new things happening in Jackson. One thing that we noticed on the way into town was how low the Snake River was this year. There wasn't a lot of snow this past winter and the runoff didn't create much excitement for :the rafters that were floating the river as we passed. This is one of the shots of how low the river was which seemed like about 5 feet lower than last year:

Another of the more famous landmarks in town was the house that dropped as the ground settled around it last year:

That shot was taken from the window of our room. It hasn't dropped any more, but nothing visible has been done to fix the slope or to make improvements to the home.

The final shot that we took yesterday was of the ruins of a fire that burned a section of the town that we spent a lot of time in last year. This included a Chinese Restaurant, Laundromat, Mexican Restaurant and the store with old furniture that we enjoyed visiting on occasion. That fire occurred after we left last year and we were shocked to see the damage:

The main workers will be on duty at the lodge today so we will stop there and visit with Judy and Jim, our managers at the Lodge. We also plan to take a drive through the Teton National Park today to catch up on any changes that may have taken place there. It is exciting to be here and we are looking forward to a fun filled week in Jackson...
