It was such a nice day we wanted to take advantage of it and go for a short drive somewhere. I had mentioned previously that we started down the road called Gros Ventre (pronounced gro-vont) and didn't get very far before we had to turn around and come home for work. We did the same thing yesterday, only we got about 15 miles in this time.
There was a lot more to be discovered on this back road including Lower Slide Lake:
This is a lake that was formed back in 1925 when there was a huge slide that occurred and created a dam on the Gros Ventre River. The story is interesting and can be read in the above link.
Our drive took us through the huge valley where we discovered more farmland:
including this hungry calf:
Mostly though, we discovered some interesting formations and colors on the hills:
Although this road eventually dead ends, we only went 15 miles into the valley. We had to turn around and head home again at noon so we could get ready for work at 3 PM. Maybe some day we will have a full day to travel the whole distance on this road which we understand to be about 40 miles long.
We made it to work on time and had our usual busy day and sold out Lodge. Every place in town is almost completely sold out this time of year. The people that we work with appreciate the money that is brought in during the summer, but long for the quiet and uncrowded atmosphere that exists during the winter months.
One more day of work for this week before another 2 day break. I will play golf tomorrow but we hope to have another great trip on Friday...
