More About Irene Damage

Our tropical storm isn't doing anywhere near the damage that hurricane Irene did a couple weeks ago, but we are glad that the worst of it seems to be passed. The winds weren't nearly as strong during the night last night, and neither was the rain. We have had a total of 3.20" of rain from the storm so far. It is less than a lot of other areas that will be looking at final totals of between 4-10 inches. The temperature is still very cool - 59 right now at 7 AM, and yesterday's range was a low of 56, and high of 59.

We received some pictures last night from our friend Bruce at Grey's Point and I have included them below. The first one is a shot of the tree that took out the main power line in the campground and just missed the store on the right:

The next couple of pictures show damage at the marina, including the fish cleaning station that was just rebuilt:

The next several pictures are of the damage to the park models and the trees that fell during the storm:

These were only a sampling of the damage. Bruce indicated that there were 10 homes that received damage. They had a huge crowd for the Labor Day Weekend holiday, and they are now getting ready to close the park for the season. Bruce was the one that took over my duties on security at night, and he indicated that the local deputy that we used on holiday weekends was kept busy with what was probably the most unruly crowd of the season. One individual was arrested for public drunkenness, and several others were threatened unless they ended their parties. I think we left there at the right time.

Our plan is to go to Elizabethtown today to Sams Club. We have a list of items that we plan to pick up that should keep us stocked for the next few months. Even though we have lingering showers, it's nice to see the light at the end of this storm tunnel...
