Elkfest Auction Photos

Every year, the Elk Refuge feeds and supports about 7,000 elk that winter there. The elk begin arriving in mid to late November, depending on the snowfall in the high country. They are fed on the Elk Refuge, and about late February/early March, the bulls lose their antlers to begin new summer growth. The local Boy Scout troops gather up all of the dropped antlers from the Elk Refuge following the departure of the elk back to their normal summer range.

The Boy Scouts sort and prepare the antlers for the huge auction which provides funding for another year for the Boy Scout programs and camps. One of my co-workers was present in April of this year for the latest Elkfest Auction, and took these photos of the project:

That is one program that is fascinating to follow. Many of these antlers go to local merchants - including the Grand Teton Association of which we are part - and use them to generate funds for the Boy Scouts. I, personally, have sold some of these antlers in our store, and those funds all go back to the Boy Scouts.

We head to Idaho Falls today for my dental appointment. Following that, we will go to the Ford Dealer in town and have the truck serviced and checked. There is a potential problem as my "check engine" light is on. Just what we need - another issue to deal with...
