Another Fire in Jackson

Early in the afternoon yesterday we saw that there was smoke coming from an area across the street from our Visitor Center. It turns out that a spark from an electric transformer across the street from the Virginian Lodge - less than a mile south of us - ignited the blaze on the hillside. These photos show the battle to extinguish the blaze:

The fire burned a reported 250 acres of bare hillside across from the Visitor Center and, as far as we know, did not burn any buildings although there was an evacuation order for some condos that were on top of the hill. It was, by far, larger than the lightening caused fire that we had several weeks ago.

We are planning to connect with some friends before we leave. Starting with a lunch today with a couple of volunteers at the Center that we have become close to and then, on Wednesday, we are planning a trip to Idaho Falls to see my friend Scott and visit with his family before having lunch with former coworkers of ours from two years ago who recently moved there from Boise. It will be a busy week ahead.

Oh, we have now caught 23 mice as the total has expanded the last few days. We never saw so many...
