We took our time to get ready to leave Virgin, UT yesterday as the trip to Mesquite was only 65 miles. It was close to 11 AM by the time we departed the campground. The trip was, as expected, uneventful, and we arrived at the Solstice Motorcoach Resort in Mesquite at 12:30.
This is a brand new resort that is along the lines of Outdoor Resorts in Palm Springs. It is in the very early stages of development, and is targeted to be for motorhomes, but right now there are more travel trailers and fifth wheels than motorhomes. We read about this on the Internet and it sounded like a good place to see and stay for a couple days. They are having a promotion - of course - where if you stay for 2 nights, you get a third night for free. Sounded good to us.
Below are shots that we took yesterday and early this morning as the sun was rising. Of course, we start with our site, which is very large:
Here are more shots of the resort, as it stands right now:
It sits on a bluff that looks out over the city:
Below is a shot of the view at sunrise with the city lights:
It may, someday, be a nice resort. Right now we feel that the resort was opened too soon. The pool is not in and the golf greens aren't in. They will have a hard time selling these spaces with so many promises unfulfilled.
Anyway, we drove around the city looking for the Visitor's Center or a Welcoming Center. Of course, everything was closed on Sunday. The fallback plan was to visit a couple casinos to try them out. Our main casino visits are being held for Laughlin next week, so we didn't spend a lot of money - or time - trying out the local casinos.
Today will be spent finding out more about the city, but so far, we aren't that impressed. Maybe our opinion will change today as we learn more about this town that we always had a curiosity to discover why it is considered a popular retirement community...
