Yesterday morning there were only 2 tickets from the restaurant. That means that the cooking staff and the waiter only served two tables for breakfast between 8 AM and 11 AM. Wow! The breakfast is a buffet with all the fix-ins and people can also order from the grill. The cooks make a lot of food to put out for the buffet. Of course, we at the front desk are allowed to fill plates and take them to the front desk to eat also. Our food is free to us though. That means the restaurant took a huge loss between wasted food and labor costs. The only potential break-even that we can see is Labor Day weekend. If it were us, we would have asked the kitchen staff to leave a couple weeks ago. Oh, well.
The park is nearly full but we only see a few small children. Most of the people that are here are older but they still bring their ATV's and spend most of the days in the woods. It is also archery deer hunting season so some of the people are long gone in the AM by the time most of us get up. We can hear the hunters leaving starting at about 4 AM. There haven't been any reports of deer taken by hunters staying at the resort so our suspicion seems true that this is not a great deer hunting area. It should be dramatically different for elk season though.
Josie has been asked to come in early (10 AM) today to get a head start on the cabins. Even with the slow down, she is getting more hours as a result of having additional housekeeping duties. The normal hours today would be 12 to 6 PM. We're looking forward to our Laughlin trip on Tuesday...
