We are finally through the process. We received word late yesterday that our mortgage has been approved and we have set May 10 as our closing date. That is one week from today. It puts us very close to Mother's Day which means that Josie will be up to her neck in work at the shop. That also means that I will be performing almost all of the duties that will be required to get things ready for Jackson while scheduling movers, carpet cleaners, locksmiths, etc. We have pretty much decided that we will not have enough time to paint the entire house, so that will have to wait until we return in late September or early October. This is not the optimum schedule, but we will work with what we have.
We talked to the owners about vacating the house during summers while we visited with them last weekend. They were snowbirds for 17 years and told us they just locked up the house and left. They turned off the water (except for the irrigation) and turned off the A/C. With the house situated in a north/south setting, the sun never hits the front or the back directly which keeps the inside cool when all the window coverings are closed. If they did that for 17 years with no problems, we will give it a shot. I will most likely still have someone check on the house occasionally to make sure everything is OK.
It's time to line up all the services and appointments we will need to make over the next two weeks. I hope it all goes smoothly as we only get one shot at this...
