Much Nicer Day

Even though it was a cool 41 outside, we took a drive to the northern section of the Tetons to try to find the bears that are known to frequent this certain area of the park. The horrible weather we had the last few days resulted in more snow being dumped on the mountains:

There seemed to be a lot more movement of wildlife on this first clear day in a while, and it wasn't long before we spotted this pronghorn:

 and these elk:

It also seemed like the wildflowers were more plentiful and Josie took bunches of pictures of those. Here are some good photos of the wildflowers:

We arrived at the area where the bears were reported and we drove around for about an hour on what is known as the Pilgrim Creek road. There were other vehicles on this dirt road and almost all of those contained photographers, waiting to get a sighting of the bears. There was a park Ranger that drove by and we asked him about the bears in this area. He indicated that two large bears were sighted about 2 miles north, and that there were bears all around in this area. Unfortunately, we didn't see any.

We then drove to an area on Rt 287 which is the road to Dubois and other eastern Wyoming towns. We heard about another campground that was on that road, not too far from the park. We found it - the Teton Mountains RV Park - and picked up information for future reference. They are performing much needed renovations to the park, so no pictures were taken.

On our drive back to Jackson, we made a few stops, including this one where a herd of bison were trying to cross the highway, but were being delayed by passing traffic. They finally made a move when the traffic slowed:

We also stopped at the Snake River Overlook where we got a few good photos and also spotted a raft that was traveling on the river - the small spot in the right center of the photo on the river:

It was a nice afternoon of driving through some beautiful countryside and even though we didn't catch the bears, we felt like it was a worthwhile trip - as usual. There will be a time when we will see the bears and it will probably occur when we least expect it.

We will leave this entry with a nice dead tree photo:
