End of Winter Season

Yesterday was a day of wrapping up some final items to prepare for our departure today. I washed the fifth wheel while Josie scrubbed the grill and took care of some inside stuff. We totally emptied the small shed and have everything packed and ready except for a few small items we will pack this morning.

Josie wanted to visit with her brother Louie one more time before we left so she called Ida, his wife, and discovered that she brought him back home which is a lot closer to us than the assisted living facility he was in before. We went to his house at a little after 3 PM and had a nice visit for about an hour and a half:

He looks pretty good for someone who has been through what he has been through in the last year. He has had 4 mini strokes, a heart attack, bypass surgery and several seizures within the last year. We had no idea that he had been through all of that before Ida informed us yesterday. While visiting, we also found out that Carlos - Pauline's husband - has liver cancer and they have sold their home in Edgewater, FL and will be moving back to New Jersey to be near their kids. Josie called Pauline as soon as we arrived home at 5 PM last night to confirm that news. It's not a very pleasant way to end our stay.

The winter went by like a shot as we look back on the five months. We look forward to our next several months of visiting with family and returning to WA where we spent over 20 years of our lives. It will be nice to see our grand kids that we haven't seen for a long time. We also have a week planned in early May to visit Patty and our family in IL that we also haven't seen in some time, and again in October following our summer in Jackson Hole, WY.

One last note to update our dieting progress. I ended March with a total loss, so far, of 35 lbs, and Josie has lost 27 lbs. Our targets are within sight and we are enjoying the new eating habits and benefiting from the effects. It's really nice finding clothes that we had dreamed of wearing one day and have been packing away for years. It's like getting a whole new wardrobe.

Happy April 1st everybody - no tricks today - as we travel to Laughlin, NV for our first night out on our trip...
