Day Four to Hermiston, OR

Our clocks indicated it was 7:45 when we left yesterday morning, but it was actually 8:45 as we regained the hour we lost on Wednesday as soon as we crossed into Oregon from Idaho. The day called for a total travel distance of 345 miles, but it was almost entirely on Interstate 84. There were some brief showers along the way in Idaho, but as soon as we reached the Oregon sate line, the rain came. It rained the remaining part of the trip through the mountain passes and until we arrived at our campground, Pioneer RV Park, in Hermiston, OR at 2:30 PM. The site is ho-hum:

but we really are just looking for a clean site and one that has all the hookups when we only stay for one night. This does the job.

We set up our rig and drove into town as we usually do to check out the new location. Hermiston is a nice town of about 17,000 population and lies just before the mountains as you travel east from Portland. We stopped at the DQ in town for a rare treat - ignoring our diets for the day - and then headed to the local Walmart to pick up a few veggies for our trip today.

Our travels will take us to Chehalis, WA today, where we will be staying at least for the next 5 days. It is the closest Thousand Trails preserve to Spanaway, where Kristine lives, and is about 40 miles from that town. We are excited to see the kids and look forward to a nice visit with them.

The forecast is for more rain - welcome to the northwest - and we just hope that it stops long enough for us to enjoy some quality time with Kristine and her family. Our plan is to arrive early this afternoon, so it's on the road again...
