Monument Valley

Our final stop on the trip home from Wyoming was in Monument Valley, UT. The Park itself is almost totally in AZ and straddles the border between UT and AZ. Also, it is not a National Park in the sense that the others are and is, instead, called Monument Valley, Navajo Indian Park. National Park passes are not accepted, and it costs $20 for a vehicle with up to 4 persons to enter.

The Visitor Center is also different in that it offers mostly Navajo Indian crafts, as you would expect, but does offer some of the National Park items (mostly books). Here is a shot of the Visitor Center:

Our day in the Monument Valley was one of the best days we have spent in any National Park. There is a drive - map provided - that takes you on a dirt and gravel road through the Monuments. We stopped at every tagged location and took pictures of everything. We felt like cowboys riding through these famous landmarks, reliving scenes from our favorites that were filmed here. Thanks to John Ford, the Director of some famous movies, for creating such interest in this beautiful park.

Some of our photos appear below:

We were blessed with another perfect day, weather-wise. Our site in the campground is excellent, and is only about one mile from the park entrance. This was our site:

Our day through Monument Valley resulted in our watching the movie "Stagecoach" when we returned to our RV to see the (now familiar) scenery that now will mean a lot more to us when seen in other movies.

It was wonderful trip south from Wyoming and we are thankful that we had the opportunity to visit the three National Parks on the way. Our schedule worked perfectly with our visits to the parks, and we felt like we spent the proper amount of time at each of them. They are truly locations for which all Americans can be proud. It motivates us to visit as many as possible in our lifetime.

We plan to be on the road this morning by about 8:30 which should get us home sometime this afternoon. The trip today will be approximately 5 hours, and cover about 300 miles...
