I had a what has become "normal" day driving for Uber and Josie worked her "normal" Saturday at the shop.
We went to Macy's last night to take advantage of what we thought was a really good sale that they advertised. It was the final day for the 20% off sale. Both Josie and I needed sneakers, so we decided to pop for them during this sale. It turns out that any of the tennis shoes, or, more precisely, all of the athletic shoes, are sold by a company called Finish Line which operates in Macy's stores. In other words, any Macy's sales are outside of Finish Line and no Macy coupons or sales apply to their merchandise. What a shock. It seems to me that any exclusions to the sale should be clearly noted in the Macy ads. It turns out that there is fine print in the sale ads that not only exclude athletic shoes, but also other merchandise (cosmetics and fragrances for example) that is sold in Macys stores but not part of Macy's own merchandise.
We ended up buying our shoes, but be aware in the future of any Macy's sales that you might think apply to merchandise you are buying. We spoke with a manager who told us that he would apply an extra 20% discount to any regular Macy merchandise that we might want to purchase. It didn't make sense for us to buy more items just to get an extra discount when we don't need or want anything else. We will certainly do our homework when shopping at Macy's in the future.
Today will be a fairly boring day as both my football teams - the Seahawks and the Cardinals - have a bye week. The schedule gets tougher now as they play each other - twice - with the first meeting next week. I look for an exciting second half to the season...
