There is a glass block window in our master bath over the tub that is on the west side of the house. During the hottest days this summer, the heat coming through that glass block window was extreme as the sun went down late in the day. We only have a total of 4 windows on the west side (including the glass block window) of the house, so we are looking at solar screens to solve the problem. The question becomes - buy them from a company that installs them or make them myself. Yesterday, we went to Home Depot to try to get a handle on costs for making our own. Screens aren't that difficult to make so I think I will do the job myself and save lots of money. When I will start that project remains to be seen.
Josie is looking at inside window solutions, so we also made a trip to the JC Penney Home Store who is having a huge sale on shades and window coverings. In addition to the screens, we would need a shade for that glass block window. Josie is looking to build her own valences for the windows so she was getting some ideas on costs for those materials. We already have wood blinds throughout the house, so I don't think we need anything for those.
All I can say is that - while we were on the road, we had none of these problems and didn't have to worry about spending money for these types of situations. There are some advantages to that lifestyle that become very evident when you go back to the old lifestyle of home ownership...
