The weather was beautiful for our 240 mile trip to Savannah, GA. We are staying in the Skidaway Island State Park which is about 10 miles from the downtown area of Savannah. At first, we were concerned about all the trees at the campsites as we drove around looking for a suitable site. Our satellite requires an unobstructed view to the southern sky, and almost all of the nice sites were heavily treed. We were able to locate this one beautiful site that had a clearing and mostly unobstructed line of sight to the southern sky:
We didn't set up for our stay until we had a chance to either move the truck forward or backward to get satellite reception. It didn't take long before the satellite locked on to the signal. We could have used the cable system they have here at the campground, but we like to have the flexibility to record shows that we would otherwise miss if we were away from the rig. Anyway, it is a wonderful site, very private, and a great campground.
Our arrival at around 2 PM allowed us to do a little bit of exploring. We discovered a Sams Club not too far from where we are staying, so we spent some time stocking up on items we haven't been able to buy over the last month or so. The shopping options were the only thing we really missed while staying at the Big Pine Key in Florida. We returned home and started to look at options for today.
Our full day today will be spent in downtown Savannah. There is so much to see here that we decided to take the Trolley Tour around the Historic District. There are 15 stops that you can use all day long and it covers the whole area downtown. We purchased the tickets online so we are ready to go. The day will be a long one, but with only 1 full day to spend here, we expect to get the most out of it. The weather is expected to be perfect. so we are looking forward to a fun day...
