After talking about how nice the weather has been the last couple weeks, it became hot again the last 2 days. It was 97 on Thursday, and yesterday it went to 99. That matched the highest temperature we had all summer since we arrived. In fact, it was so hot that the breaks were extended 5 minutes to 20 minutes each yesterday. For a while it appeared that we would get a thunderstorm last night but it just missed us. The wind did go to 25 MPH at 6:30 PM, and it looked like we would get a big storm, but got nothing but the wind. Now, we are watching the tropical storm that is moving on shore in Louisiana. It appears right now that we will get some rain - eventually - from that powerful looking depression. In fact, we heard that Louisiana could expect 10 - 20 inches of rain from the storm. Wow. That's a lot of rain to get in a couple days.
The holiday will provide some advantage for us on Monday. We found out that we get time-and-a-half pay for the day. The regular, full time employees get a full 8 hours holiday pay on top of the regular pay they get for working the holiday. Amazon takes good care of its employees that way. Most companies do pay extra for working holidays, but since we are temporary, seasonal employees, we thought we may not get the extra pay. That was good news.
Since there is nothing else going on right now, we'll make this entry short and sweet and get ready for day 2 of work this week...
