Two Legs Down, One To Go

We weren't quite as late getting started yesterday - 8 AM, versus a planned 7:30 start. The difference in yesterday's trip though was it was raining the entire day, all the way to, and including, Bozeman, MT. The rain, coupled with mountain passes and lots and lots of construction in Montana, resulted in our arriving somewhat later than planned. It was 4:30 when we pulled into the Sunrise Campground in Bozeman. As we were checking in, I mentioned to the woman at the desk that there was a lot of construction on I-90 all the way in from the Montana state line. She said there were two seasons in Montana - Winter and Road Construction. Josie had mentioned earlier in the day that Montana probably has to do all of its road repairs when there is no snow or freezing weather, making it difficult to get all the work done every year.

It was a beautiful trip though, even with the all the rain and construction. Below is one shot of the typical scene going from Idaho and all through Western Montana:

As soon as we passed Missoula, the terrain changed a little bit in that there were more ranches and farmland, with fewer mountains, but still beautiful:

There was almost always a creek or river running alongside the highway and the rain made those swell and move even faster. Bozeman brings back memories for me of the only guided hunting trip I ever took. I was here two weeks after Pop died in 1983 with some friends and we met up with the guide in Bozeman, stayed one night, and headed out to the hills near Yellowstone where I got my first elk. The place has changed in nearly 27 years.

We set up at our site - another level pull through - and we were once again able to leave the fifth wheel hitched to the truck to make for a quicker getaway this morning. We went out to dinner at a nice Italian restaurant last night and made it to bed around 10 PM. Below is a picture of our site:

This campground isn't as nice as the one we stayed in last night, but it is fine for one night. We are now on Mountain Time so we already have lost an hour today. The trip is a short one today - only 215 miles - so we should still arrive in the early afternoon sometime. The sun is shining this morning so we hope to have a pleasant trip to Cody...
