Stormy Day

Almost the entire day was filled with off-and-on thunderstorms. We really need the rain to help with the wildfires that are still burning in the state but we had to stay inside for our breaks as the timing was such that the storms were passing through at those times.

One of our staff read the schedule wrong and came into work at 7:45 instead of her scheduled 11:00 AM. It was nice to have the extra help in the morning, but it made for a super long day for her as she had to stay until 7 PM to help close. That is one thing we hope never happens with us. It is a long enough day without misreading the schedule to make it longer.

Our week winds down today with another early start. Looking forward to 4:15 when we can start our weekend...

Monsoon

So far this summer season we have had almost a daily dose of the Monsoon. Last night and early this morning we had an accumulation of almost a half inch of rain and it is still spitting now. It was also a heavy dose of thunder and lightening.

It was another day of good progress yesterday emptying boxes and putting away clothes and other goodies from storage. We hope to get just about all the remaining boxes emptied over the next couple days and begin separating Good Will things from "keeper" stuff. We also started shredding some papers yesterday so we hope to get all the files under control very soon. It has become easier to retain papers now with the online capabilities of most of our applications. Of course, now we have a whole new set of files to maintain for the new house.

I have moved into the den now and Josie has taken over the small desk area in the kitchen. We aren't especially liking the separation at this point but maybe it will grow on us. It just makes more sense for me to utilize the den and keep the office clutter to a location outside of the main living area. We have all of the bedrooms just about done now and it is starting to look like we live here...

The Rains Came

Fortunately, most of the day was nice yesterday. I spent much of the day outside continuing the consolidation of files and sorting through old papers and travel info. I even had a chance to take a bike ride around the resort. Since Josie uses the truck, there aren't many choices of places to go. The exercise is needed anyway, so I used a trip to the office to check for mail to also begin a ride which took me to the other side of the resort. The marina is an inviting place, and this is where the party was held over the weekend:

There is another boat launch on the north side of the resort that is also a popular spot for families that want to picnic or use a "beach" to swim:

I only rode for a few miles, but even that little bit of exercise was beneficial for somebody that has been sitting on his butt for about the last month.

The forecast was for a storm to move in late in the afternoon, and the forecast was accurate. By 5 PM, the clouds rolled in and I closed up the gazebo while taking this shot of the western sky:

We ended up with almost .5" of rain through last night, and the forecast is for more to come. The skies should clear late this afternoon and begin to warm up again for Christmas. Thank goodness there were no high winds with this storm - yet - and everything seems to be normal. There was a small problem that I will fix today, and that is to dry out our connections for the outside lights. Evidently, water got into one of the connections and we had no outside Christmas lights last night. I suspected a potential problem for that situation and I should have taped the connections when I installed the lights.

I suppose that tomorrow I will drive Josie to work and use the truck during the day to get a few errands done that I have been putting off. With her working straight through to Christmas, it is the only way I will get them done...

More Records

It seems like records for weather are being set every week this winter. Yesterday was a day of records for rainfall on that date. We only had .57" at our location, but records were set in several areas surrounding us that went up to 1.75" for yesterday's date. Just last week we set records for high temperatures (80's) so you never know. The high yesterday was 61.

Our day was spent inside, as expected, with the exception of a trip to the clubhouse for our exercise routine. The forecast is for more showers today although not as much as we had yesterday. So, with the day being a "watch it rain" day, there isn't anything else to report...

Yikes. Stop The Rain.

Today makes 8 out the last 9 days we have had rain. Yesterday's total was 1.03" and so far this morning, we have had .45" and the day is still young. We can't remember the last time we had so much rain. Even in Washington, it would almost always be less than .25" in any one day. Even though it rained often, it was in small doses. With 2 days to go in February, we have had nearly 5" of rain for the month. The folks back east better prepare for another winter storm since it seems like the storms coming through here ultimately end up in the Northeast as snow.

There was an individual that checked into the park last night just before 9 PM. Since I had patrol duty for the night it was my responsibility to site him - in the pouring rain, of course. I kind of felt sorry for him though, as he had to unhitch and set up his rig in the rain. We now have 2 campers in the short term sites. It must be a drag for anybody that has come here to spend a weekend and have to sit and watch it rain. That's the chance you take. So much for the song that says "It never rains in Southern California".

Today is also our next to last day of work this week. It's been a few days since we've seen our deer family, so they must be hunkered down somewhere in a dry spot (where's that?). We brought home a flyer that we have in the store that shows 21 wine tasting stops in this area. Maybe we'll take that tour on our days off and at least stay dry - or at least, not care about the weather. Later...
