This morning is the scheduled first service for our new Ford Escape. We just passed the 5K mile mark and get our first service free from the dealer. Basically, it is only an oil change and a tire rotation, but it is necessary and the price is right. We haven't driven the car that much since we purchased it in October which says a lot about the shorter commute that Josie has to work. I have driven the other Escape even less and have probably only put on about 1K miles in the same time frame. One thing is for sure, and that is that our fuel costs are way down with these vehicles.
Unfortunately, neither of these vehicles are able to tow our trailer. I plan to trade/sell the older Escape to get another truck, hopefully before we leave for Jackson. We already have a transport company lined up in case we don't. By disposing of the truck in October, we have saved thousands of dollars in finance charges, insurance, registration and fuel. The truck was only sitting here, much like the older Escape. Any new truck will be an older model with low mileage to keep the costs down. I'm thinking along the lines of a 2014 F350 which would be about half the cost of a new one. According to reviews, that is supposedly the best model year for the 6.7L diesel for Ford.
We'll see how that search goes over the next several weeks, as I now will prepare to leave for today's service appointment...
