Our first day back to work since the holiday weekend was a stark comparison to the previous 3 working days. The campground is literally a ghost town as there are only 2 rigs in all the spaces. Coupled with only a few seasonal families in camp, it made for a dull and mostly boring day yesterday. Josie didn't do much in the office except clean the food equipment such as the slush machine, coffee machine, soda equipment, etc. I didn't do much outside except perform inventory on the boating equipment, check the docks for loose or damaged boards, pick up trash in the campground, and move the rental carts back into our storage area.
We received our first paychecks since we arrived yesterday. As noted before, the person responsible for the payroll was on vacation when we arrived and they missed the first pay period for us that was 2 weeks ago. We were very disappointed in the number of hours that we have been getting the last 4 weeks. We have been averaging just over 20 hours a week which is a far cry from what we were told before we came, and what we need to make this work for us. Especially since we are responsible for paying our own electric. With the hot summer upon us and the air conditioner running most of the time that we are home, our electric charges will be eating into our pay. It appears to us that with all the people they have on the staff, and with the slow business during week days, there won't be a lot of extra hours available to work. It seems that a meeting with management is in order. We really like this park, but the business side needs to accommodate our goals, or it won't work.
It's another 5 hour day today for us. It will be interesting to find out what kind of chores will be assigned to us since the same "barren" camp ground is out there. We are hoping that when the schools are all out the crowd will increase. I'm sure the ownership of the park is hoping for the same thing. We'll find out...
