Stopping in Shelby, IA

We were glad that we revised the travel schedule and only went 185 miles yesterady. After I did a repair on the underside of the fifth wheel and gassed up the vehicles, it was around 11 AM by the time we got started. There were no pictures of our site from yesterday. It was a dump and a total disappointment. It was actually not even a campground, but the back lot of a pretty run down motel. There were no pictures or reviews of that place to see before we decided to stop there, so that should have been the first clue. The second clue was it only cost $12.50 to spend the night. Believe me, it wasn't worth half that amount. We did meet a very nice Canadian couple there that was staying next to us and passing through. They also were disappointed in the place.

Our arrival in Shelby, IA, yesterday afternoon at around 3 PM was welcome. It was still a little windy and we ran into lots more construction, but the average was 7.6 MPG towing the trailer for the day. There is nothing to see except miles and miles of cornfields in this state. We expect to see the same today as we will travel across the state and stay in Davenport, IA, tonight. Below is a shot of our campsite in Shelby which was a tremendous improvement on the one in Sioux Falls, SD:

The plan this morning is to leave by around 9 AM and travel 263 miles which is the longest of the last 2 days before arriving in Naperville, IL, tomorrow. We'll go and gas up the vehicles, pack a small lunch and head out, hopefully on time. Until tomorrow...
