I don't know if it is just the floral business, but Josie came home from work early yesterday because all the work was done. She is struggling to get comfortable with all the changes at Cactus Flower that seem to affect business - in a negative way. The start to her return to Cactus Flower is not a smooth and happy occasion so far. One thing that has changed, and is responsible for some of the downturn, is the fact that the company has reduced its involvement with FTD to save money and the order call-in volume has been reduced as a result. The Call Center function has been eliminated. I was suppose to drive for them today to help with holiday deliveries but the lack of orders on the "board" has eliminated the need for my help. Hopefully, there will be a turnaround today.
I have spent lots of time perusing rental listings looking for what might be the "perfect" rental for us. There have not been any, so far, that satisfy all our requirements. That doesn't mean that there won't be one as we have some time before we need to get serious about that.
As mentioned yesterday, we expect very warm temperatures for Thanksgiving Day. It is in the upper 80's almost every day now - and will be for the next several days - and those temperatures are about 15 degrees above normal for this time of the year. It could be a lot worse as we look at some of the weather across the country...

Buffet Lunch and Slow at Work
We picked up Karen and George outside of their church at 12 PM to go to Irma's Hotel for our buffet lunch. When we arrived at the Hotel, there was another couple from their church that also joined us for the buffet. Irma's was super crowded and we ended up getting a table for 6 in the lounge area which was OK for us. They serve a complete meal, including roast beef, grilled salmon and chicken, along with lots of vegetable choices, salads and a whole table full of desserts. We all stuffed ourselves and our (Josie and I) bill came to $20. We should have gone there for lunch several times since we've been here.
It was a very slow day at work and it made for an extra long day. There were 3 tours that came in and we only had 7 other reservations. We were done by 6:30 and had to find things to do until our quitting time. I came back to the rig and picked up my camera so that I could show people the pictures we took of the moose we saw last week on our trip to Sheridan. Some of the people here are really into all the animal sightings that others have recorded in and around Yellowstone and other areas in northern Wyoming. We saw neat pictures that have been taken of bears, elk, moose, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, badgers, bison, wolves and just about everything else you can imagine in the wild. This is certainly an area where you can expect to see any of those almost everywhere you go.
Today promises to be another like yesterday at work. We are again expecting 3 tours and there aren't many reservations so we are bracing ourselves for another slow day...

Slow Day and Winds
Yesterday was a very slow day for us at the lodge. We did a few reservations, had some folks check in and basically spent much of the time accepting deliveries for the weekend. We had a keg of Bud Light delivered, a freezer full of ice bags and ice blocks delivered and several bottles of hard stuff for the bar in the banquet room. The restaurant will be open for the rest of the weekend so we will be getting some traffic from that side.
The biggest story yesterday was the wind. There were steady wind speeds in the 25-30 MPH range with a highest gust of 33 MPH. This area is located fairly close to the edge of the Mogollon Rim which creates different air currents and more winds naturally. It is a beautiful area because of the Rim but you can almost always expect different weather patterns as a result of it. Anyway, we haven't had any rain yet in June which is nice. The temperature range yesterday was 69 (high) and 46 (low).
We went into Payson after work yesterday to pick up a prescription at the WalMart Supercenter and also to deposit our paychecks. There is no direct deposit here so we can expect to have at least one trip to either Payson or Flagstaff every two weeks to make the deposit. That's OK though since we will need to go into town to replenish food supplies.
Our shift begins at 7 this morning and ends at 2 PM. We don't expect an overwhelming flow of traffic but the resort is about 80% booked for this weekend.
