Back to Work

It was another busy game at the stadium yesterday. The game between the Dodgers and Royals brought out a medium size crowd. The official attendance was 5709, but it seemed like 15,709. The people that were there sure were hungry. We did a lot of business. It was another game that was slow and didn't end until after 4 PM. That meant a late departure for us, with an arrival home - for me - at around 5:30 last night.

Josie went to visit her brother following her earlier departure from the game. We had wanted to visit him before, but he hasn't been doing too well and was recently moved to an assisted living facility. He has had several more, smaller strokes within the last few months. He is to the point where he requires constant care and therapy so he was moved there for that purpose. We both will try to visit him again before we leave on the 1st of April.

We received another jolt this morning when we learned that a friend of ours, June Pinkston, has died suddenly. You may remember when she and her husband, Dave, came to Jackson Hole last summer to visit us from Cody. She was much too young to pass away. We don't have any details yet, but saw the announcement from another friend on Facebook this morning. We did see where she was ill the last several months but never thought it was that serious. One never knows when it's time to leave this world of ours.

Our game today is the first of two night games that we have remaining on the schedule. I go into work at 3 PM and Josie follows at 3:30. The game begins at 6:05 PM and will probably mean that I will get home after 9 PM. That's OK except we follow tonight's game with another day game tomorrow. Seven more games and we're done...

Normal Day at the Office

It was just another day at the office, so they say. We had a very busy day again and filled the cabins as we usually do. Josie was busy, although not quite as much as when the Motor Maids motorcycle ladies were in town. The town is quiet once again. Most of the people staying now are vacationers that are coming or going to Yellowstone. A big difference now though is that we are able to answer questions from people about where to go and what to do while in town. There are still some places we haven't been but, for the most part, we can speak from experience. We are fortunate to be in this area where there is so much available to do.

There are 2 places we are definetly zeroing in on - the Dan Miller Western Music Show and rafting. The Dan Miller show is a Branson (MO) type western music show that has gotten rave reviews, and the rafting trip is something we have been thinking about for several weeks. Both of those events will be free to us as employees of the Village here. Of course, there is the Grand Teton trip and Jackson WY that is also on our list of places to go, but that trip will most likely be an overnight trip for us. Another event that we hope to get to is a wild west shoot-out that is held every evening outside the Irma Hotel in town that was Buffalo Bill's office and part time home that he had built while he was alive. Never a dull moment here.

It will be a relaxing Sunday morning for us today as we prepare for our second work day of the week. Until tomorrow...

End of Our Weekend

Here we are at the end of our weekend again. It just goes so fast on our days off. We are so looking forward to the day that we don't have to work at all and can just use every day to relax or go someplace fun. We had to do some chores yesterday like grocery shopping and I got a haircut so we didn't get to go anyplace. Josie also made cookies so that pretty much took care of the day. I also sent off some emails to a few locations for Workamping, so I hope to hear back from those sometime soon. We did receive an offer from a place that was in the Badlands National Park in South Dakota but decided that it was too remote for us. It would have been at least an hour away from any kind of shopping or real civilization. We aren't ready for another one of those - been there, done that remote location thing. We kinda like having cell phone service. There are some potential opportunities though near Rapid City and Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. That would be OK and it gets us a lot closer to Illinois where we can go visit Patty and her family in Naperville which is high on our list.

The good news about today and tomorrow is that Josie and I get to work both days without the managers being around since these are their 2 days off. The park is full, so we expect today to be mostly people coming in and out for the showers and buying small items from the store. Some are scheduled to leave today, but the mass exodus will be tomorrow. Fortunately, so far at least, the weather hasn't been too bad - a few clouds yesterday and today but no rain yet. I have seen several awnings out, including ours, so that's also a good sign that the winds are cooperating. We are now waiting for the heat to get turned up outside. May has been an exceptionally wet and cool month from what we have heard, so let's get on with summer in June...

Back to Work

It was a mostly uneventful day yesterday. Josie worked the office and store and I worked on computer stuff. We had a staff meeting that ran from 11 AM to noon, with staff members that have a connection to the development of the website we have. There are many changes planned for the website, and I believe that I mentioned before that I would be involved in those changes - more than I anticipated as it turns out. They appointed me the Webmaster for the new website and that kinda scares me. I'm not an expert , by any means, of the software that they utilize for development. I will have to become familiar with it pretty quick. Josie reminded me that in most places, website developers demand huge fees for their work, and Bill is getting me real cheap. That may be true, but the experience is valuable for me and maybe I can learn enough from this experience to help us down the road somewhere.

We have had beautiful weather the last week and it looks like there may be a chance of rain today. The clouds are here so the forecast is probably right. It's OK for it to rain on our working days, but we obviously like the nice weather for "play" days. We need to decide where to go next but we do have a lot of choices. We are anxious to go to Yosemite, but we want to make sure there's not a problem with snow. There is a place in Jamestown, about 15 miles from here, called the "Railtown 1897 Historic Park" that we want to see. It has the last, still operating, railroad roundhouse in the country and was the place where many of the railroad scenes were filmed in the old westerns. That should be interesting...
